Abstract

In Malaysia, the New SME Development Framework outlined its vision to create globally competitive SMEs that could boost wealth and contribute to the well-being of the nation by making the ICT as one of the focus areas. Previous studies have shown that SME entrepreneurs have reached a high level of computer skill but are still struggling to navigate the digitalization gap that can significantly increase business profits and productivity. The online presence of most SMEs is still low despite having an internet connection. This study aimed to look at the level of business digitalization among SME MARA’s entrepreneurs in Malacca. The objectives of the study were to look at the level of business digitization in terms of ICT skills, internet accessibility and e-commerce usage in business operations. The sample of study consists of 90 SME MARA’s entrepreneurs in Melaka which is randomly selected. Data were collected by survey through questionnaire form and analyzed using SPSS software. The findings show that SME entrepreneurs in Malacca have high levels of ICT skills and accessibility to the internet. However, the use of e-commerce among them is still at moderate level. The results of this study can provide input to MARA agencies to help MARA SMEs compete competitively globally and open up opportunities for polytechnics to enhance lifelong learning programs.
