Abstract

Security key management as a part of security management for any government agency is a very crucial matter to be taken seriously. It needs to be properly administered to ensure that the secrecy of the country can be fully secured and cannot be easily infiltrated. However, cases like missing, damaged and unauthorized key duplication are still occurred. Similar problem also exists in KKMT so that its own management requested for a specific research conducted to cater this issue. This is due to the fact that majority of KKMT security keys are managed manually and exposed to human error in the course of recording for the borrowing and returning process. Hence, an in-depth study to explore the problems that exist in the key management of the security keys at KKMT and the method to overcome it was carried out. The qualitative research was conducted by using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and document analysis (corpus study) as its instruments. The results reveal seven major problems in the management of KKMT security keys such as (i) missing keys (ii) misplaced (iii) damaged (iv) bringing it back to home unintentionally (v) overlooked to record for the borrowing and returning (vi) difficulties to identify the borrower and (vii) the allocated borrowing time is not in line with the lecture time schedule. Therefore, a computerized decentralized system integrated with IoT (Internet of Thing) technology was proposed as the possible solution towards the problem. The method is seen as the best solution to overcome the problems for the security keys management at KKMT.
