Generative AI Policy

The Politeknik & Kolej Komuniti Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (PMJSSH) recognises the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic writing and scholarly publishing. The journal supports the responsible and transparent use of such technologies while maintaining the principles of academic integrity, originality, confidentiality and accountability.

For Authors

Authors may use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies for language improvement, grammar correction, translation or other writing assistance. However, AI-generated content must not replace the authors’ own intellectual contribution, critical analysis or scholarly judgement.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity and validity of all content submitted to PMJSSH. Authors must verify AI-assisted content and ensure that it does not contain fabricated information, inaccurate references, plagiarism or copyright infringement.

The use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies beyond basic spelling and grammar correction must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript. Authors must include an AI Disclosure Statement before the References section, identifying the AI tool used and briefly describing the purpose for which it was used. No disclosure is required for basic spelling and grammar correction.

Generative AI tools, including Large Language Models (LLMs), must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors remain fully responsible and accountable for the submitted work.

Where generative AI or AI-assisted technologies are used as part of the research methodology, data analysis or research process, authors must clearly describe their use in the appropriate section of the manuscript, including the purpose and manner in which the technology was used.

For Reviewers and Editors

Manuscripts submitted to PMJSSH are confidential documents. Reviewers and editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, or any confidential part of them, to publicly accessible generative AI tools where confidentiality and data protection cannot be assured.

Generative AI must not replace the independent scholarly judgement of reviewers or editors. Reviewers and editors remain fully responsible for their evaluations, recommendations and editorial decisions.

Failure to disclose significant use of generative AI, submission of fabricated or misleading AI-generated content, or inappropriate use of AI that compromises academic integrity or confidentiality may be considered a breach of the journal’s publication ethics and may result in editorial action.

PMJSSH may revise this policy in response to developments in generative AI technologies and recognised standards in scholarly publishing.
